Accurate modelling of transients due to lightning strikes is essential. Effects due to lightning on uniform transmission lines have been widely studied. However, modern transmission networks consist of many nonuniformities and discontinuities that can affect their transient behavior. Therefore, analysis performed based on a uniform line assumption may not be accurate. This paper presents a modification to a nonuniform transmission line model developed by the authors in a previous work to analyze the effect of a lightning strike nearby a non-uniform structure. Results are compared to those obtained using a uniform approach.
