Results of surgical treatment of the oral and oropharyngeal cancer
Materials and methods: The results of surgical treatment in 30 patients with oral and oropharyngeal cancer were studied. Postoperative surgical complications were analyzed according to the Clavien-Dindo classification, the causes of postoperative complications after reconstructive operations.
Results: Postoperative complications developed in 20.0% of cases and were represented by dehiscence of the wound edges, bleeding, and in the long-term period by the formation of a pharyngostomy, osteradionecrosis with a pathological fracture of the jaw. The resulting post-resection defects are inevitably accompanied by severe functional impairments: impaired opening of the mouth was noted in 36.7% of patients, impaired swallowing - in 3.3%, speech impairments - in all patients. The acoustic characteristics of speech were lower than those of a healthy person.
