scholar will learn a great deal from the more “historical” chapters of the book, and I am positive that many of the episodes analyzed in the book will shed new light on the period for historians of Russia as well. In fact, anyone interested in Russian history and culture of the first half of the nineteenth century will benefit a great deal from this study, including undergraduate students and general audiences. I have already recommended this book to my daughter, who is an undergraduate history major with a focus on Russia and Eastern Europe and is looking forward to reading it.
