Xi Is Not Emperor of All He Surveys

these covert CIA activities from the 1940s directly to Watergate in 1972. This is not a comprehensive history of the Central Intelligence Agencie’s activities in China during the Cold War, nor is it a comprehensive history of US-China relations during that time. That will have to wait for far more declassification of documents by the agency and, hopefully, one day, documents from the Chinese side as well. In the meantime, Derlury has produced a compelling and elegantly written narrative of a largely unknown story, ranging from the broad perspectives of foreign policy to the personal tale of one man caught up in it all. This book is an excellent introduction to the subject and I highly recommend it.
