The records were then collected and put together in a cookbook.  Budaya cetak dan melek aksara merupakan hal yang menjadi penanda adanya perkembangan pengetahuan secara pesat di wilayah Hindia Belanda. Perkembangan ini dibarengi dengan munculnya pandangan baru mengenai bagaimana metode atau cara mengolah makanan secara ideal dan estetis. Selain itu produksi bahan-bahan pangan dan varietas tanaman pangan baru yang melimpah. Oleh karena itu, masyarakat mulai mencatat mengenai pengolahan makanan tersebut. Mulai dari alat, bahan, dan langkahlangkahnya. Dari catatan-catatan tersebut terbentuk sebuah komposisi dalam pengolahan makanan.
