This report presentsthe results from the structural response and record-ed damages to historical monuments (churches and temples) subject to seismic movements in Mexico and those from an analytical model. The case study is the Temple of Santa Lucía, located in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, an area of high seismic activity. The methodology implemented the finite element method, analyzing the temple under different seismic intensities with return intervals of 30, 100, 500,and 1000 years. On September 7, 2017, a powerful earthquake struck Mexico achieving an acceleration of 500 gal in areas near the epicenter. The damages caused to the temple coincided with those predicted in the research work.
