Many of these lesions are difficult to identify clinically and can only be identified as a distinct entity based on typical and consistent histomorphology. One such reactive lesion is peripheral ossifying fibroma. It has been described using various synonyms and is thought to arise from the periodontal ligament, which accounts for approximately 9% of all gingival growths. The lesion is typically small in size, located primarily in the anterior maxilla, with a higher predilection for females, and is more common in the second decade of life.
