Description of elementary particles (hadrons) in terms of the values of roots of the characteristic equation of complex 3×3-matrices has been proposed. The baryons are shown to be described by the subtype I solutions of algebraic classification, and the mesons by D and O ones (with identical roots), which justifies the conventional types of hadrons, the values of their electric charges. Algebraic formulae for their mass have been presented.
