Internet of Things (IoT) Application for Temperature Control in Residential Premises
The paper presents a mobile application developed for exchanging information via the Internet of Things (IoT) technology between an electronic module for energy source management and an electronic system for control of energy flows in residential premises to achieve temperature comfort and reduce the financial costs of a household for electricity. The electronic system is comprised of an energy module that calculates the energy flows based on the geometry and thermal properties of the room, controllable energy source, and mobile application. The mobile application is used to manage the schedule, holiday mode, time, and temperature settings of the system. The mobile application has the ability to register smartphones that are used to detect the presence of inhabitants of the premises. The communication between the system for the management of energy flows and the mobile application is based on the MQTT protocol. The system sends the status of the sensors for measuring the temperature inside and outside the room to the mobile application for displaying the turned off and remaining sensors. The developed system and application are used in the University of Ruse „Angel Kanchev”.
