Damping-Off in East African Pine Nurseries: 2. Methyl Cellulose Application of Seed Dressings at Kisarawe
Berbee has found fungicides of low phytotoxicity such as captan, thiram, and zineb to be efficacious in controlling damping-off when applied to the seed with a methyl cellulose sticker (Berbee, et al., 1953). In the southern United States fumigation of seed beds with methyl bromide or Vapam has been found to increase number of plantable seedlings as well as controlling dampingoff and weeds (Hodges, 1960, 1962). Fumigation with formalin has been found to be effective here (Setliff & Hocking, 1965) as well as elsewhere (Vaartaja, 1964).
