La influencia de los recursos de capital humano, social y financiero sobre la velocidad del proceso exportador de las empresas familiares

The purpose of this work is to analyse whether certain resources related to human, social and financial capital influence the speed of the export development process for family firms. We use event history analysis applied to a sample of 585 Spanish manufacturing family firms. The results show that the variables related to social capital — the relationships with foreign suppliers, the agreements with retailers and wholesalers, and the development of technological collaborations — have a significant accelerating effect on the speed of this process. Also, the participation of other firms in the ownership of the family firms has a significant accelerating influence, but only for the entry into the advanced phase of the exporting process.
