The Relationship between Men and Women: Ahlam Mosteghanemi's Point of View
Objectives: This research aims to elucidate Ahlam Mosteghanemi's perspective on the relationship between men and women, specifically focusing on the three types of men with whom she becomes entangled.
Methods: To address the research question, the study is divided into three parts. The first part explores Ahlam's views on lovers, the second delves into the contrasting portrayals of politicians, and the third examines her writings on patriotic men who fight against Algeria's enemies.
Results: Through an in-depth analysis of Ahlam Mosteghanemi's literary works, three distinct types of Algerian men, as well as Arab men in general, have been identified. First, the loved man or lover manifests in various forms, including the passionate lover, friend, father, brother, jealous individual, and one who contradicts his own principles. Second, politicians are depicted in two contrasting forms: one driven solely by personal interests, and another who is sincere, honest, and patriotic. Third, the patriotic man fights for the well-being of his country and opposes those who seek to harm Algeria.
Conclusions: Ahlam Mosteghanemi, much like her native country Algeria, is deeply affected by terrorism, fear, instability, and systemic corruption within state institutions, largely due to the negligence of citizens. Amidst these contradictions, Ahlam finds herself torn between the different types of men represented in her works, mirroring the struggles faced by Algeria itself.
