In this review, there is a clear explanation of the types of robotic ultrasound currently in use. Most of the research showed that sonographers were needed to set up the ultrasound machine at the beginning of the scan to identify the region of interest (ROI), either fully or partially. But 7 robotic ultrasound systems (out of 18) did not need the sonographer’s assistance, using visual sensors instead. One of the limitations for the use of robotic ultrasound presently is that the patient remains still; this allows the ROI to be found and lies at a certain level, if these things change, then the image acquired may be of poor quality. More research is needed in this area.
