Case report: Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura during pregnancy: Treatment with plasma substitution
Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is presently regarded as one of the most clearcut indications for plasma exchange (PE). We describe a young woman with TTP during pregnancy who initially received PE but during the last months of her pregnancy needed only infusions of plasma to control her TTP. Furthermore, during his first days of life, her newborn son showed signs of microangiopathic hemolytic anemia (MAH). These signs rapidly vanished after an exchange transfusion.
