Some observations on the distributions of amplitude and duration of underdense meteor trails and its application to design of meteor scatter protocols
Analysis of data from recent experiments leads to the observation that the distributions of peak signal levels and durations of underdense meteor trails differ from classic predictions. The authors show that if the trail arrival process is modeled by three independent random variables and the decay factor is modeled as a random process, the observed distribution functions for the amplitude and duration of underdense meteor trails can be more accurately synthesized. They conclude that the present findings have important ramifications in applications where it is desired to simulate more accurately the arrival process of meteor trails in order to predict the performance of meteor communication systems.<>
