Determination of the Effect of Diet on the Development and Severity of Acne Vulgaris by Using Insulin Index and Glycemic Index
6 Acne vulgaris (AV) is a chronic, inflammatory disease of the pilosebaceous unit and may affect all age groups, although it usually occurs in adolescents. Four major factors in the pathogenesis of acne include increased sebum production, abnormal follicular keratinization, Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) proliferation and inflammation.1,2 Pilosebaceous unit activity is controlled by androgen hormones. Obesity is currently a major health problem and is frequently associated with peripheral hyperandrogenism. Since carbohydrate-rich Western type diet has become widespread especially in recent years and the patients with AV are often on this diet, diet factor is considered likely to be one of the factors that trigger the disDetermination of the Effect of Diet on the Development and Severity of Acne Vulgaris by Using Insulin Index and Glycemic Index
