The author used a complex method which combined the source analysis of artist’s works and memoires, his articles on the history of architecture, and traditional formal analysis of his works and data of historiography of the reign of Elizabeth Petrovna. It was found out the official portraits of Louis Caravaque and portrait of G.C. Grooth influenced the image of Elizabeth in Benois works. Benois views on the work of F.B.
