Between the 19th and 20th centuries, a political and artistic movement arose in the Canary Islands, mainly in the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which led to the creation of intellectual cenacles that prompted various attempts to express in literary form the particularities of the insular speech. One of these remarkable groups is the so-called Círculo de los Millares, created by the brothers Luis and Agustín Millares, in which the figure of Rafael Romero, better known as Alonso Quesada, stands out. In their literary work, these three writers masterfully combined literature, phraseology and phraseography. This paper deals with some paradigmatic examples of their work that are presented, studied and compared.
