Ruth received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, and her PhD from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. She completed her postdoctoral training at the University of Wisconsin. Ruth received the Silver Medal in Psychological and Physiological Acoustics from the Acoustical Society of America (ASA), the first woman to receive this award. She is a Fellow of the ASA and served as an associate editor of The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America for seven years.
