the brief appearance of Yaffa's husband—who seems to think that five is enough—it would have been interesting to learn more of the family's feelings about what is partly the active decision of the woman of the house. There is also not enough focus on the economic implications of having a large family. We do see the chaotic and cramped interior of Emunah's Jerusalem apartment contrasted with Yaffa's spacious house in a village near Tel Aviv, but we don't really get the sense that economic realities are at least in part governing the women's choices. Overall, Shlam has succeeded in producing a satisfying documentary on a little-discussed—yet very intriguing—subject. Jennie Ebeling University of Evansville
