STUDIES ON LIPID PROFILE AND LEVELS OF SOME SEX HORMONES IN SUBJECTS WITH PROSTATE CANCER

Studies on lipid profile and levels of some sex hormones in subjects with prostate cancer were evaluated using standard methods. Two hundred volunteer subjects were recruited for the study. Results obtained for lipid profile showed significant (p<0.05) increase in levels of cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL-cholesterol in test subjects when compared to control subjects. Levels of testosterone and prolactin were insignificantly (p>0.05) affected in test subjects against the control subjects. When the indices were considered along age groups A and B of this study, younger adult males between the age group of 40-58 years had increased cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL-cholesterol while levels of prostate-specific antigen and sex hormone binding globulin were significantly higher in group B when compared to group A. These could be how they vary with respect to prostate cancer situation. This study has evaluated the lipid profile and levels of some sex hormones in subjects with prostate cancer.
