THE ANALYSIS OF MULTIMODAL DISCOURSE: A COMPARISON OF METHODOLOGICAL PROPOSALS
The article compares some of the most relevant proposals for multimodal analysis, in order to describe them and establish contrasts regarding the implementation of their assumptions. More specifically, this theoretical revision shows both convergences and differences among the multi-semiotic artifact proposal, the compositional approach, the socio-semiotic theory of multimodality, and the multimodal metaphor. The results of the comparative analysis make it possible to understand the logic behind multimodal discourse and the diverse paths that researchers interested in this field can follow. Furthermore, these findings contribute a more detailed view of the ways in which the analysis of modal discourse has been implemented in the discipline’s empirical studies.
