ACUPUNTURA NO MANEJO DE SEQUELAS DO TRATAMENTO PARA O CÂNCER DE CABEÇA E PESCOÇO: UMA REVISÃO NARRATIVA ACUPUNCTURE IN THE MANAGEMENT OF SEQUELS OF TREATMENT FOR HEAD AND NECK CANCER: A NARRATIVE REVIEW

Introdução: O tratamento antineoplásico para o câncer de cabeça e pescoço (CCP) gera diversas sequelas e efeitos colaterais para os pacientes. A acupuntura tem sido utilizada nestes pacientes na tentativa de reduzir alguns sintomas causados pelo câncer ou pelo seu tratamento, podendo afetar de forma significativa a qualidade de vida (QV). Objetivo: Conhecer o que a literatura científica descreve a respeito da utilização da acupuntura no manejo preventivo e terapêutico das sequelas do tratamento para CCP. Metodologia: Revisão narrativa da literatura realizada através das bases de dados PubMed e Bireme. Incluídos artigos que abordassem a utilização da acupuntura no manejo preventivo e terapêutico das sequelas do tratamento para o CCP, publicados nos últimos dez anos, nos idiomas inglês, português e espanhol. Resultados: Foram encontrados 99 artigos nas bases de dados e 20 destes foram incluídos nesta revisão. A xerostomia, disfagia, linfedema e dor após esvaziamento cervical foram as sequelas mais citadas nos artigos selecionados. Foi observado que a utilização da acupuntura na oncologia é um campo de grande ascensão e trouxe benefícios para os pacientes que a utilizaram, além de ser uma técnica com mínimos efeitos adversos. Conclusão: A utilização da acupuntura parece ser um recurso que minimiza as sequelas do tratamento para o CCP, seja no manejo preventivo e terapêutico, com resultados promissores. Entretanto, com base nas evidências atuais, ainda existem lacunas que precisam ser elucidadas para que haja uma padronização na sua utilização.Introduction: Antineoplastic treatment for head and neck cancer (HNC) generates several sequelae and side effects for patients. Acupuncture has been used in these patients in an attempt to reduce some symptoms caused by cancer or its treatment, which can significantly affect quality of life. Objective: To know what the scientific literature describes about the use of acupuncture in the preventive and therapeutic management of treatment sequelae for HNC. Methodology: Narrative review of the literature carried out through the PubMed and Bireme databases. Articles that addressed the use of acupuncture in the preventive and therapeutic management of treatment sequelae for HNC, published in the last ten years, in English, Portuguese and Spanish, were included. Results: 99 articles were found in the databases and 20 of these were included in this review. Xerostomia, dysphagia, lymphedema and pain after neck dissection were the most cited sequelae in the selected articles. It was observed that the use of acupuncture in oncology is a field of great growth and has brought benefits to the patients who used it, in addition to being a technique with minimal adverse effects. Conclusion: The use of acupuncture seems to be a resource that minimizes the sequelae of treatment for HNC, whether in preventive and therapeutic management, with promising results. However, based on current evidence, there are still gaps that need to be clarified in order to standardize its use.
