Purba","doi":"10.17977/um023v11i12022p25-33","DOIUrl":null,"url":null,"abstract":"This study aims to examine the effectiveness of persuasive communication through the use of pictures of the positive impact of smoking cessation to increase motivation to quit smoking. The study was conducted using a quasi-experimental method involving 30 male subjects with an age range of 20–23 years and with low to moderate smoking cessation motivation scores. The design of this study used a one-group pretest-posttest design. The motivation of the subjects was assessed using Barus’ motivation scale to quit smoking. The data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results showed that persuasive communication through pictures of the positive impact of quitting smoking can be effective in increasing motivation to quit smoking. This was because the persuasion communication process results in a change in information about smoking, which in this study focused on the positive impact of quitting smoking.
