Notas históricas sobre la capilla de música de la colegiata de Santa María de los Reales Alcázares de Úbeda, Jaén (siglos XVI-XVIII)

The ancient collegiate church of Santa Maria de los Reales Alcazares in Ubeda, Jaen (1259-1852) is the oldest of the three existing ones in the town. This study presents 17th and 18th century documentation about musicians and musical activites preserved at the Archivo Historico Municipal of Ubeda and in the Archivo Ducal de Medinaceli (Sevilla), where the chapter records —mostly from the 18th century— of that collegiate church were recently found. Even though there is important literature about Ubeda, the scarcity of documentary sources is a great limitation. Thus the new data presented here about Ubeda’s musical history opens up the way for future research.
