Evaluating the Evolution and Future of Urban Poverty Policies in Public Administration in Turkey
ABSTRACT In Turkey, large-scale environmental problems, disasters, unemployment, and conflicts have catalyzed population migrations into cities, thus increasing the number of urban poor and worsening the overall poverty rate. While previous studies have investigated different methods of reducing poverty at various time points, this study focused on clarifying the nature of developments and changes in public administration policies designed to address the urban poor in Turkey, including relevant legislative frameworks, involved parties, and future policy outlooks. In the study, it was concluded that rural development should be provided in order to reduce the rate of urban poverty in Turkey.

The Journal of Poverty is the first refereed journal to recognize the inequalities in our social, political, and economic structures, presenting progressing strategies that expand society"s increasingly narrow notions of poverty and inequality. The journal"s broad understanding of poverty—more inclusive than the traditional view—keeps the focus on people"s need for education, employment, safe and affordable housing, nutrition, and adequate medical care, and on interventions that range from direct practice to community organization to social policy analysis. The journal"s articles will increase your knowledge and awareness of oppressive forces such as racism, sexism, classism, and homophobia that contribute to the maintenance of poverty and inequality.
