He has had successful collaborations in environmetrics, medical genetics and psychometrics. He was the 1995 winner of the Canadian Journal of Statistics Best Paper Award and the 2016 recipient of the Gold Medal for Research from the Statistical Society of Canada. He was John von Neumann Gastprofessur at Technische Universität München in May– June 2011.
