The Structural Correlation Modeling of Stress and Substance Abuse by mediating Meaning of Life and Experiential Avoidance.
Introduction: Substance Abuse is serious threat to society that can not be cured without regard to relevant factors. Method: This study was structural modeling between Stress and Substance Abuse by mediating role of Meaning of Life and Experiential Avoidance. The statistical population is all studying students at Mashhad Ferdowsi University in 2019. For this study, 387 students were chosen by multi-stage random cluster sampling. participants answered demographic information, Simple Screening Instrument for Substance Abuse and Mental (SAMISS), Student Stress Survey (SSS), Multidimensional Experiential Avoidance Questionnaire (MEAQ), and Meaning Life Questionnaire (MLQ). Data were analyzed by SPSS-23 and AMOS-23. Results: The Total Effect Model analysis showed the Stress is correlated direct and positive with the Substance Abuse. Also, the Mediation Effect Model analysis showed the Experiential Avoidance mediates positively and partially the relationship between Stress and Substance Abuse. The Meaning of Life mediates negatively and partially the relationship between Stress and Substance Abuse. P-value was smaller than 0.05 in both Model analysis. Conclusions: Current study provide support for theories that widen the scope with regard to the conceptualization of substance abuse, and identify the Meaning of Life and Experiential Avoidance as particularly relevant factors to consider when treating Substance Abuse.
