Garlic is also used in the treatment of bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic infections. There are many chemical compounds in garlic, but those responsible for its health-promoting effect include, first of all, those containing sulfur. These compounds are characterized by many mechanisms of action, such as antioxidant, cardioprotective and anti-inflammatory effects. Many mechanisms of action of organosulfur compounds influencing the regulation of blood pressure and lipid metabolism have been demonstrated. Many clinical studies and meta-analyses are assessing the effect of garlic on blood pressure and lipid profile in various groups of patients in the literature.
