Calidad de vida y depresión en pacientes con diagnóstico de Diabetes tipo 2

This study aimed to identify the relationship between health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and depression in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. A sample of 31 patients from Monteria city (Colombia) was selected. The SF-36 Health Survey was used to measure quality of life while the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) was used to measure depression. Regarding results, levels below the average were found in the physical dimensions of the SF-36 (physical function, physical role, body pain, and general health, vitality) and above-average levels were observed in the mental dimensions (social function, emotional role, mental Health). Regarding the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), there were mild levels of depression. Besides, medium and high negative correlations between the dimension of the quality of life and Depression, were found. The results of this research show the importance of studying the influence of negative emotions on the different dimensions of health-related quality of life in people with type 2 diabetes.
