Emerging zygomycoses of humans: Saksenaea vasiformis and Apophysomyces elegans.
Since the first isolation of Saksenaea vasiformis and Apophysomyces elegans from soil specimens in 1953 and 1979, respectively, more than 30 human infections have occurred with these organisms. This paper will review the laboratory diagnosis and clinical manifestations of infections with these emerging zygomycetes.
