Effect of polarization on the vibrational behavior of the soft dielectric elastomer tube
This study delves into the influence of polarization on the axisymmetric vibration and stability of a soft dielectric elastomer tube through electroelasticity and linearized incremental theories. The tube experiences an internal electric field generated by compliant electrodes mounted on the tube surfaces and an applied external electric field induced by free charges of ions interacting with the electrodes. In addition, the tube undergoes radial pressure at its inner surface. The two distinguishing electric fields are easily described by a unified polarization field. Thus, this approach allows us to theoretically analyze the impact of their interaction, represented by the polarization field, on the vibrational behavior of the dielectric elastomer tube. Furthermore, we illustrate the role of prestretch, particularly in the circumferential direction, in actively controlling the vibrational frequency and axisymmetric stability of the soft dielectric tube under this interaction effect.
