The management of psychological vulnerability is one of the main causes of the burden placed on informal and formal caregivers, due to the shortage of human and material resources for appropriate care. Informal carers face significant challenges in managing the difficulty of providing care, particularly regarding patients’ behavioral problems. They play a crucial role in the healthcare system by providing long-term care to vulnerable patients. Informal caregivers, often family members, also face significant educational, societal, and financial challenges: shortages of healthcare staff, adverse health effects, stigma, and financial costs associated with care. They must navigate the ambiguity of boundaries in their relationship with the patient, which can affect their quality of life and health. Caregivers’ adaptive strategies, whether flexible or rigid, influence their perception of the task and their quality of life. Less vulnerable caregivers tend to adopt problem-focused strategies and seek solutions, while more vulnerable caregivers have rigid and exaggerated strategies. The ability of caregivers to be psychologically present with the patient varies according to their ability to manage the situation and maintain an emotional balance. Caregivers’ coping strategies, their ability to find meaning in their role, and to manage their emotions are essential to alleviating their burden. Training and psychoeducational programs can be beneficial in helping them cope with the challenges they face.
