They are found in summer and fall in hardwood forests including <i>Fagaceae</i> (<i>Quercus</i>, <i>Fagus</i>) and in grassy clearings and nutrient-rich soils. They can be distinguished morphologically from one another by their general colours, spore size, pileus covering structure and shape of the cheilocystidia.
