Through 50 semi-structured interviews and a robust thematic analysis approach, this study explores the challenges and solutions to realising a sustainable mobility future for the city. A comprehensive understanding of stakeholders’ views on current challenges, opportunities and the overall direction of transport policy and practice was examined, including the role of technology and community involvement. Seven themes were identified: policy and governance; community and stakeholder participation; infrastructure and resource allocation; innovation and adaptive strategies; data-driven and evidence-based approaches; operational efficiency and effectiveness; and environmental sustainability and health. This paper further investigates these themes and their interconnections using a systems thinking approach, revealing a complex web of feedback loops and leverage points that shape the urban mobility landscape. Our findings highlight the critical role of integrated policy frameworks, community engagement, technological innovations, and a multidisciplinary approach in transitioning towards a more sustainable, efficient, and inclusive urban mobility system.
