Recent research has highlighted the potential significance of gut microbiota and demonstrated their influence on host health and disease mechanisms through the production of bioactive metabolites. This review examines the role of alterations in gut microbial composition and their metabolites in the pathophysiological processes underlying renal fibrosis. It delineates current therapeutic interventions aimed at modulating gut microbiota composition, encompassing dietary modifications, pharmacological approaches, and probiotic supplementation, while evaluating their efficacy in mitigating renal fibrosis. Articles should be written at a level accessible to readers who are non-specialists in the topic of the article themselves, but who are interested in the research. The Journal welcomes reviews on topics of wide interest to investigators in the life sciences. We particularly encourage submission of brief, focused reviews containing high-quality artwork and require the use of mechanistic summary diagrams.
