The new distribution extended the exponential distribution by introducing additional shape parameter, making the extended distribution more exible and with better goodness of fit. The properties of the model was studied namely the moment with some of its measures, the quantile function and the order statistics. The estimation of the parameters was done using the maximum likelihood method. The model was applied to two real-life datasets and it was found that the new model performed better than the classical Weibull and gamma distributions. For the airplane windshield failure times data, the p-values are such that of NWED > Weibull > Gamma.
