Effect of Polyfluorinated Alcohols on Properties of Polyvinyl Alcohol Cryogels
The effect that additions of fluorinated alcohols to an aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol exert on the rheological and physicochemical properties of elastic cryocomposites obtained after the freezing–thawing cycle was studied. The elastic modulus of the ternary cryogel (polyvinyl alcohol–water–1,1,7-trihydrododecafluoroheptyl alcohol) is 2 times higher than that of the binary cryogel (polyvinyl alcohol–water). With an increase in the molecular mass of fluorinated alcohols, the elastic modulus of cryogels increases from 65 to 80 kPa. The presence of fluorinated alcohols in the cryogel matrix imparts hydrophobic properties to the material, and the dried samples, in contrast to the cryogels without additives, do not burn.

Russian Journal of Applied Chemistry (Zhurnal prikladnoi khimii) was founded in 1928. It covers all application problems of modern chemistry, including the structure of inorganic and organic compounds, kinetics and mechanisms of chemical reactions, problems of chemical processes and apparatus, borderline problems of chemistry, and applied research.
