Relation between Body Mass Index and Knee Osteoarthritis in Pre-Elderly to Elderly at Orthopedic Poly of Dr. Mohamad Soewandhie Regional Public Hospital Surabaya
Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease in which the joints feel painful due to mild inflammation caused by friction between the ends of the bones that make up the joints, especially in older people. According to the results of a study conducted in Surakarta, it was found that with a body mass index > 25 (overweight), the risk of developing osteoarthritis is 4.9 times higher than that of the elderly with a body mass index of 18.5-25 .0. The aim of this study was to determine whether there is an association between osteoarthritis of the knee and BMI in the elderly in the orthopedic outpatient clinic of Soewandhie Hospital, Surabaya. The method used to identify osteoarthritis patients is a cross- sectional observational analysis. These results suggest that study participants with a high BMI had more severe osteoarthritis, while study participants with a normal BMI deficiency had milder osteoarthritis. In a review based on Spearman's rank correlation, BMI and degree of osteoarthritis in Soewandhie Hospital Surabaya knows that the value of the correlation coefficient or value of r = 0.554 is close to 1, indicating that the correlation level has a positive direction and is quite strong. For example, it is known that in osteoarthritis patients in the orthopedic outpatient clinic Soewandhie Hospital Surabaya.   INDEX TERMS Body Mass Index, Knee Osteoarthritis, Elderly
