Strategies to Combat Japanese Encephalitis

Japanese encephalitis (JE) is still one of the most dangerous mosquito-transmitted infections in the world, and there is no cure or set of rules for treating it. The clinical signs and progression of the infection are influenced by the pathogenicity of both the viral determinants and the host immune responses. JE can affect both fine and gross motor skills, making it difficult to perform tasks including walking, gripping, and coordinating actions. In the absence of antiviral treatment, vaccination is the only way to produce long-lasting protection against JEV infection. The disease still lacks a cure or treatment recommendations.
