Diagnosis and Treatment of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome in Adolescents

The article analyzes the issues related to the timely detection, treatment and prevention of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), determining the optimal management tactics of patients, assessing the acceptability of the use of classical criteria for PCOS among adolescents. The search and evaluation of international and Russian scientific publications over the past five years – from 2017 to 2022 was carried out. The Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, and Google Academy databases were used for the search. Based on systematic reviews, the generally accepted criteria for PCOS in relation to adolescents are analyzed. It is shown that the diagnosis of PCOS in childhood and adulthood differs in many ways. Validated diagnostic criteria for the disease in adolescents have not yet been developed, and the available parameters only allow us to suspect the formation of PCOS and formulate criteria for patients ‘at risk of developing PCOS’
