CUIDADOS PALIATIVOS E POLÍTICAS PÚBLICAS NO BRASIL: aspectos conceituais e históricos

Palliative Care aims to promote quality of life for patients with life-threatening diseases, seeking relief and prevention of physical, social, psychological and spiritual suffering. This study is a narrative review of the literature, which aims to present a conceptual and historical overview of Palliative Care, focusing on the Brazilian reality and the scenario regarding existing public policies. The results indicate that, despite an important health practice and the growing interest in the subject, it was only in 2018 that the Tripartite Inter-Agency Commission published a resolution that regulates its offer by the SUS as part of integrated continuing care. However, legal bases for its full implementation are still lacking and some challenges persist, such as the concentration of services in some regions of the country, difficulty in accessing opioids, lack of specialized teams, distance between demand and professional training, and the challenge of diversification at different levels of care.
