The importance of the geo-civilizational factor in international relations is becoming increasingly important; the role of civilizational self-awareness is increasing. The author in the research, along with the historical-contextual method, the method of content analysis, actively used the method of civilizational analysis (spatial-civilizational analysis). By using this method, the author introduced the term of geocivilization into scientific circulation, which is currently actively used by scientists, analysts and experts The paper concludes that the Russian civilization has a fundamental distinguishing feature – the system-forming factor of its formation and functioning is not a single religion (as with most civilizations), but a common historical fate formed as a result of long-term cohabitation of representatives of many ethnic groups and faiths. Consequently, representatives of the Russian civilization have a dual identity – they feel belonging to the culture of one of the numerous ethnic groups (national culture) and at the same time feel belonging to a large Russian culture. This quality allows many peoples and faiths coexist without conflicts and wars for more than ten centuries.
