This study aims to determine the antidepressant effect of Red Ginger ethanol extract given to mice using the forced swimming test method. This research was conducted experimentally with a research design, namely the test material used was Red Ginger extract (Zingiber officinale Roscoe var. Rumbrum) using a simple experimental design by looking at the antidepressant effect on mice with the swimming test method based on the immobility time parameter of mice divided into 5 groups treatment. Group I (negative control) was only given 1% Na.CMC injection. Groups II, III, and IV were given Red Ginger extract 3%, 5%, 7% w/v and group V (positive control) was given Amitriptyline. Observational data were tested by ANOVA method showing significantly different results between the treatment and the negative control. Furthermore, to determine the difference between treatments, it is continued with the Newman-Keuls range test. The data obtained showed that there was a significant difference between all treatments except for the administration of 3% w/v and 5% w/v extract which were not significantly different. The results showed that the ethanol extract of Red Ginger with concentrations of 3%, 5%, and 7% w/v, had an antidepressant effect based on the duration of immobility in mice.
