Chemical composition of essential oils from different Mentha ssp
The chemical composition of six essential oils from three different species of the genus Mentha was determined by GC/MS analysis. The main components in the essential oils were monoterpene oxygen derivatives. The main components in the three samples of the species Mentha piperita L. were menthol (30.35-41.53%), menthone (17.030-22.00%), 1,8-cineole (4.97-5.87%), menthyl acetate (6.45-10.47%), and iso-menthone (3.67-4.90%). The chemical composition of the two samples of M. arvensis L. was presented by menthol (30.35-36.33%), menthone (20.08-20.50%), menthofuran (5.85-9.18%), and α-terpineol (7.18%). Carvone (58.22%) was identified as the major component in M. spicata essential oil sample.
