Algorithmic Evaluation: Accessibility of Assistive Technology Webpage Content
Recent advanced computer technology has introduced several Assistive Technologies (AT) for special needs users. Users browse its web pages frequently to access information about these technological products. Surprisingly, web pages of these assistive technologies are not free from accessibility issues that arise serious accessibility violations. Therefore, in this study, we evaluated the AT webpage content concerning the accessibility issues of people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). ASD users have several issues that make it difficult to interact with web content. We evaluate seven AT webpages through our proposed accessibility issues identification algorithm. The proposed algorithm can identify accessibility issues related to webpage language, internal and external links, image tags/text alternatives, and content text. We evaluate the experiment result through statistical analysis. The experimental result depicts that image tags/text alternatives and content accessibility-related issues are frequent violations in the experimented AT webpages. The experiment result shows the effectiveness of the proposed approach that might be beneficial for the people with autism and associate authorities of AT webpages.
