Developing and Designing Grid Sense for Fault Detection in Overhead Electricity Distribution Network
Many malfunctions occur in the overhead line electricity distribution network due to environmental and technical reasons; especially in the Black Sea Region, which is the responsibility area of Yeşilırmak Distribution Co.(YEDAŞ); Short circuits occur in the power line as a result of ice load, line falling, tree falling and the contact of conductors connected to these environmental conditions. As a result, undesirable faults such as harmonics, current-voltage imbalance, and voltage collapse occur. Currently, fault indicator devices (FID) are used to detect faults, but since FIDs only measure current and temperature parameters, additional devices are needed for fault detection. Power quality devices (PQD) are the most used devices together with FID. The use of different devices in the field leads to cost and complexity in data analysis. With this study, product parameters including FID and PQD features and extra environmental sensors in the YEDAŞ region were determined and realized. The product incorporating these features is named “Grid Sense”.
