This paper presents the basic overview about the way how increase in threat level to the airworthiness of aircraft from lightning induced effect has occurred due to recent trends of aircraft materials. The paper reviews standards that established the criteria to improve the airworthiness of modern aircraft and also the measures that have been adopted in the design philosophy by the aviation industry to counter lightning induced effects.
