A Parametric Study of CO 2 Absorption from CO 2/Air Mixture using Packed Column
In the current work, the packed bed CO2 absorption from a mixture of air/CO2 using water as solvent has been investigated. The initial CO2 level, solvent flow and air flow rate are the operating parameters considered for the analyzing the influence on CO2 absorption rate and absorption flux. The CO2 absorption rate and CO2 flux strongly depend on the CO2 level in the feed, CO2 rate, solvent rate and the air rate and varies directly with operating conditions. It is observed that rate of absorption increases with increased CO2 % level in the feed mixture and solvent rate. The maximal absorption rate and flux of 5.16 mmol/min and 10.1 x 102 mmol/min.m2 were determined under constant conditions of F2= 30 L/min, Ci= 40 % CO2 and F1= 3 L/min. The minimal rate of absorption of 1.53 mmol/min was obtained at CO2 level of 10% with air flow 30 L/min. The findings may be used to optimize steady-state economical absorption of CO2 from a mixture of CO2/air using packed column.
