Half a century of dedicated research for the sake of the lakes: A record of the celebration for Mohiuddin Munawar by Fisheries and Oceans Canada
Having known Mohi for over two decades, I do not recall any celebrations of 30 or 40 years of service at the Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Then, suddenly the announcement of Mohi’s 50 years of service arrived in my inbox. Five decades, half a century, it is absolutely amazing! Nowadays there are hardly any people who receive medals for 25 years of work in the same organization or company, let alone 5 (Fig. 1). During a 60 minute Zoom session, Mohi received warm words from various colleagues, including Tricia Mitchell (Regional Director of Science), Lynn Bouvier (Conservation Biology Section Head), and the Honorable Deputy Minister, Timothy Sargent. In fact, the time allotted was not sufficient for the celebratory mood that everybody was in. Mohi looked shy and overwhelmed by hearing all the laudations and praise for his work. The numbers of publications and books are vertiginous—that is widely known. Obviously, Mohi addressed the virtual guests with a smart overview of his main scientific achievements. In three comprehensive slides, he explained his research areas of interest
